Frank Baehr
February 24, 1939 - December 04, 2021
Frank Baehr has touched the lives of countless people. This is especially so since he brought Matsubayashi directly from Osensei Shoshin Nagamine in Okinawa to Canada in 1967. In recent times, he called this dojo his home and we welcomed his unique insight into martial arts and life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His legacy resides in all who do Matsubayashi in Canada and wherever he went to aid in understanding of our style. He was loved by many and was part of our Karate family.
Lawrence Michizu Nakamura
June 25, 1922 - July 31, 2013
It is with great sadness today that I announce the passing of my longtime Iaido and Kendo teacher, Sensei Lawrence Nakamura. I first met Sensei in 1978 while studying Kendo under him. Sensei later asked if I would like to study Iaido as well and so I did. He was a kind yet strict teacher, and went out of his way to make sure you understood what you were doing. He always told me, "Your word is your bond" and he lived up to that. Rain or snow or storm, he always showed up to class and was there for you. That's all he expected from the rest of us. I will miss you Sensei, you have giving me so much. Thank you.
Yasuharu Makishi, 10th Dan Hanshi

It is with deep regret and sadness that we announce the passing away of former President of WMKA Mr. Yasuharu Makishi, Hanshi 10th Dan at the age of 73. He was a long time president of WMKA under Soke Takayoshi Nagamine and worked hard until Soke's Passing away last year.

It is with deep regret and sadness that I announce that on Tuesday, October 02, 2012, Walt Rowden, 8th Dan Kyoshi passed away after a long stay in a local Hospital. Walt Sensei was 77 years young and had practiced Matsubayashi-Ryu for 44 years. Rest in Peace.

Survived by devoted wife, Ande Williams; Two loving children, Damian (DeAnna) Hazeley and Sydney Williams; Six loving siblings, Governor (Krystle) Williams, Caroline (Smith) Samuel, Kathleen Chapman, Viola (Eric) Larkin, LaVerne DeArmond, Kimberly Williams and a host of other relatives and friends.
